Ultrafractal 4.04

Well, back to the ol' cubofractostracto junk again! lol I got to playing around with my older "Deezenkews" piece and came up with this variation on that theme. Different zoom/aspect, WAY different colors...and a lot more layers. (who, ME???) Yup, still messing with the IFS Barnsley+jock III formula and the "Doodads II" coloring algorithm. And lots of mask dragging and texture sharpening.

I thought I'd post this now since I'm outta town the rest of the week. I decided to jump on a plane to New York City and attend the Awards Ceremony for the 2009 MOCA "Donnie" contest. MOCA is one of the only - if not THE only - galleries devoted to solely digital art and I figured it was a part of the history of our genre that I had to go and see for myself so I figured, whattheheck, the prize $$ would pay for the tickets so why not? Hope I don't freak out too much on the plane - was always kinda nervous and haven't flown in almost 30 years...I'll bring a mask and fins in case we end up ditching in the Hudson and we're going to dump like 10 bags of bird seed a couple of miles away from the airport to lure the birds away b4 we take off, too. ;-) (kidding aside - what a miracle THAT deal was a few weeks ago at LaGuardia!)

Of course my wife, Joie (my nick for "Joanne") has been listening to this ex gang banger janitor where she works and is all freaked out and worried someone is going to steal her fancy-schmancy camera. Can't seem to get her to stop stressing - hope we can have a good time in the Big Apple anyhow. She reminds me of Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" except instead of lions, tigers, bears, she's all like, "Muggers and Thugs and Thieves, oh my! Muggers and Thugs and Thieves, OH MY!!!" LOL! Poor girl...

I'm really looking forward to seeing the place again after 25 years. I went up and spent 9 days living in Greenwich Village with some friends back in the '80s and had a blast. What a dynamic place to be! Loved it! I'm am, though, a bit concerned that what we call a "heavy coat" here in Florida might not be quite adequate for the 20-30 degree temps I'm guessing we'll be wandering the streets of Manhattan in - brrrrrrrrrr! I reckon a flannel shirt, sweat shirt and my "big" coat oughtta do the trick....I hope. :-)

Thanks for stopping by! (Anybody with first-hand experience and tips on thawing frozen Floridians, just in case?)
Rick

Nice work Rykk - lots of sharp lines but full of curves. My favorite of your recent work. :)

Have a good time in NY

Playful color work!

The teal/turquoise curves next to the pinkish shapes do a great job of drawing my eye. I like the combination of lighter pastels and darker tones: it adds nice depth and contrast.

Have fun in NY and congrats on the MOCA win!

This is a terrific image, Rick! It has great movement, a really nice balance between dark and light colours, and the embossing gives it an interesting bas relief effect. Good stuff!

Congrats on your Donnie, and I hope you and Joie enjoy New York!

Very nice fractal
We were in NY last year, it's the safest place in the world now with zero tolerance by the police, we walked around at night and felt great.
